Tara started her riding career at a young age and continued to pursue her passion up through high school and college where she competed on the University of Connecticut's IHSA Team. She successfully competed at State and National Championships, earning numerous awards along the way.
After graduating from UConn with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in English, Mathews was hired as a special education teacher at A. Ward Spaulding Elementary School in her hometown of Suffield, Conn. She spent three years in that position before leaving for Mount Holyoke College.e way.
She completed four seasons as head coach of the Mount Holyoke College Interscholastic Equestrian Team before leaving the college to work as the Zone 1 Administrator for the IEA and assistant tax collector for her town.
Mathews currently resides in Suffield with her husband Jay and son Callan. As a member of the CHJA Board of Directors, she serves as the Co Chairman of the Equitation Committee and also serves on the Banquet Committee. In 2011, Tara was the recipient of the CHJA Distinguished Service Award. Mathews enjoys kayaking, scrapbooking, sewing and antiquing. She has two horses – Tea & Honey.
