2018 Shenandoah Artist
Shenandoah Artist

    Owned by Lisa Beffert

Shenandoah Artist or “Artist” has participated in the education of young riders literally for decades. His early years were spent between Ox Ridge Hunt Club and Ethel Walker School with a Junior rider. He found a permanent home with Susan Horn at River’s Edge Farm where he lived until 2012. It was here that he participated in all levels of the program: Top IHSA Draw at the Sacred Heart and Yale shows, lesson pony, and open show winner in all levels with multiple riders at each show. He could even pack around adults as a pony in the novice level. At age 27 he became the cornerstone of Stony Lane Farm where he continued to bring young riders up the ranks and qualified another for the CHJA Finals.

In 2018, Artist was IEA Horse of the Show at 33 years old! He continues to lesson with a new rider twice weekly and gives them the confidence to canter. There is no way of knowing how many little girls contracted the “horse bug” from this gentle and talented pony. Tonight we honor Shenandoah Artist and those that learned from him and loved him.
